Starting School

Welcome to our Starting School Transition page. On this page is everything you should need to prepare for your child starting school here at Ridgeway Primary School. Please look through our Parent Transition Meeting presentation. The presentation also includes our contact details and your homework!

As well as the presentation you will see there is the Welcome Pack and extra information for you to read.

Transition Dates:

Parent Meeting: Tuesday 13th May 2025, in school at 5.30pm

Initial visits:

To start to get to know the school and the staff, we would love your child to visit for two initial visits:

July 8th Group A: 9.30am – 11.30am
July 8th Group B: 1.30pm – 3pm
July 9th Group B: 9.30am – 11.30am
July 9th Group A: 1.30pm – 3pm

Full day Transition:

Following the initial visits, we would love to see your child for two full days in school on. These days will include lunchtime and will start at 9.30am and finish at 3.00pm.

July 14th Group A: 9.30 – 3pm
July 15th Group B: 9.30 – 3pm
July 16th Group A: 9.30 – 3pm
July 17th Group B: 9.30 – 3pm

For dinner, you can either provide your child with a packed lunch or order a school meal on the day. We will cover the cost of the school dinner, so you will not be charged.

For all the transition visits, children will need a drinks bottle (named), a light waterproof coat and their pocket pal. Please do not send them in uniform.

Seesaw: Transition activities:

From July to September can seem like a very long time, especially when you are 4 years old, so we would like to keep in touch with you over the summer. The teaching team will set a few tasks to continue getting to know your child and to remind them who we all are.

There are two accounts for Seesaw, one for parents and one for children. Please use the guide we send to get set up but please remember, just give us a ring if you have any problems and we will do our best to get you set up.
