We are LEARNERS
At Ridgeway, our music curriculum has been designed to foster a love for music and develop foundational skills in our learners. It typically includes singing, where children learn to use their voices expressively and confidently through a variety of songs and vocal exercises. Instrument activities introduce children to basic musical instruments such as handbells, boomwhackers and ocarinas, helping them understand a range of musical components. Listening sessions expose children to diverse musical genres and styles, enhancing their auditory skills and appreciation for different cultures. Appraising involves discussing and evaluating music, encouraging the children to express their thoughts and feelings about what they hear, and developing critical thinking skills. Additionally, the curriculum emphasises collaboration, where children get the opportunity to play music both independently and as part of a group, fostering teamwork and social skills. Composition activities allow children to create their own music, encouraging creativity and a deeper understanding of musical structure.
This holistic approach ensures that children not only enjoy music but also build a strong foundation of musical skills.
